OT 75th logo

Our program offers a 37 month, 116 credit, graduate-level professional program completed over nine semesters. Graduates of the program will be eligible to sit for the National Certification Examination for the Occupational Therapist, administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this examination, the graduate will be an occupational therapist, registered (OTR). The University of Minnesota Occupational Therapy program is a hybrid program with instruction and learning occurring on campus and online. The University of Minnesota OT Program is a hybrid program with on campus and distance learning components.

The Program's primary purpose is the preparation of entry-level professionals capable of the creative and independent critical thinking required for current and future practice and research in occupational therapy.

Mission Statement

The mission of the University of Minnesota’s Occupational Therapy Program reflects the mission of the University of Minnesota as a whole: to benefit the people of the state, nation and world through research and discovery, teaching and learning, and outreach and public service.

We strive to accomplish our mission by creating a community of scholars, teachers and students devoted to creating new knowledge and applying current knowledge to everyday practice. We embrace the values of a land grant institution to serve the needs of Minnesota through inclusive practices, outreach to areas of need, and translation of most current knowledge to practice.

We educate leaders in occupational therapy through innovative experience-based education and research to advance the science of OT, and foster the health and quality of life of individuals, communities, and societies. We value empathy, expertise, teamwork, results, and leadership. The University of Minnesota OT Program is a hybrid program with on campus and  distance learning components.

Note: only students enrolled in coursework after the drop/add period of the specified semester are counted. Students who have withdrawn, been suspended or dismissed, or are on a leave of absence are not counted in the returning number. This means, even if they are not included in the retention number, it is possible a student may still return to the program to complete their degree.

Cost of Attendance

The cost categories are estimates and are meant to assist preparing a personal budget. Individual student costs will vary. Visit the One Stop Student Services website to estimate tuition for our program.

In addition to general tuition and fees of the University, there are fees charged for individual occupational therapy courses. To identify which courses have additional fees, visit the One Stop course fees web site. Each year in July, the University of Minnesota Board of Regents approves the tuition and fees for the next academic year. Tuition and Fees are subject to change. More information about Occupational Therapy costs and fees can be found one the One Stop costs, tuition, and fees page. OTD-specific fee information will be posted each Summer.

The tables below are based upon one of three plan options to complete the degree. All options equal the same total number of credits, but the tuition varies per semester based upon the student’s individual course plan.
