Who are we?
The University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy PGY1 Residency Program is a multi-site program focusing on the practice of pharmaceutical care in the ambulatory setting. Our span of sites is among the largest of any accredited program nationally, offering residents a wide range of settings to become skilled comprehensive medication management practitioners through our core ambulatory care learning experiences.
With our wide range of settings, residents have the opportunity to select a host site that best matches their individual learning preferences. More specific information can be found under the Residency Sites & Emphasis Areas section. Our settings include rural and urban practices, larger and smaller health systems, teaching-focused and non-teaching clinics, community pharmacy and inpatient practice experiences, didactic and experiential teaching and underserved and for-profit clinical settings. The size and diversity of our program provides many advantages to our residents, such as the ability to learn about practice models in multiple settings, the availability of group learning activities, and an opportunity to develop collegiality with a group of fellow residents.
What makes us different?
Collaboration and learning across sites
- Our unique structure maximizes resident learning and experience through both site-based and central learning activities. Our program is truly based on community-campus partnerships. Centralized program administration frees up preceptors to do what they do best - practice and teach. Program-wide learning experiences enhance the learning that can be gained at a single organization allowing residents to gain an appreciation of the similarities and differences of pharmacy practice across an array of healthcare entity types.
