College of Pharmacy Awards Celebration was held on Thursday, December 4, 2025 and recognized alumni, faculty, and students from all three programs of the College of Pharmacy.*

*The College of Pharmacy offers degrees in the programs of pharmacy (PharmD, MS, PhD), occupational therapy (OTD), and medical laboratory sciences (BS, Certificate, MMLS, MS, and BLS). The pharmacy program is offered on the Twin Cities and Duluth campuses. The occupational therapy program is offered on the Twin Cities and Rochester campuses. The medical laboratory sciences program is offered on the Twin Cities campus. Interactive technology is used to keep all campuses connected.

University Awards

Outstanding Achievement Award

The Outstanding Achievement Award is the University of Minnesota's highest award given to alumni. It is conferred upon former students of the University who have attained distinction in their chosen fields or professions or in public service, and who have demonstrated outstanding achievement and leadership on a community, state, national, or international level.

Entrepreneurial Spirit Award

This award is designed to celebrate the value of entrepreneurship and innovation across the University community. This award is presented to an individual who demonstrates a commitment to business and economic development. The contribution and leadership of this individual was a catalyst for job creation, smart growth/development, or economic improvement in their community. This individual embodies the entrepreneurial spirit and innovative thinking.

College of Pharmacy Awards

Clinical Excellence Award

The Clinical Excellence Award is awarded to an alum whose work is marked by limitless clinical empathy, understanding, and caring within health care. The award is NOT meant to recognize teaching, mentoring, or scholarship (although awardees may possess some or all of these attributes). Rather, the award recognizes clinical skills, exemplary disciplinary knowledge, and attitudes that define clinical excellence. Nominations are open to alumni of the Pharmacy Graduate Program, and Occupational Therapy and Medical Laboratory Science programs (all programs/all disciplines).

Occupational Fieldwork Educator

This award recognizes an occupational therapy practitioner (OTP) who has demonstrated excellence in clinical education as a fieldwork educator in Level I or Level II fieldwork experiences for occupational therapy students. Individuals who are paid by the university are not eligible for this award.

Pharmacy Research Innovation Award

This award honors an alum who demonstrates the highest caliber of innovation in science and/or health care through innovation, developing cutting-edge technologies , and/or value-creating transformations in the pharmaceutical, medical laboratory, or occupational therapy sciences. Nominations are open to alumni of the Pharmacy Graduate Program. Distinguished Professors and retired faculty are not eligible.

Professional Advocacy Award

Recognizes a person for their commitment and impact on advocating for improvement in health and our health professions. Examples may include involvement in/leading advocacy efforts for legislative change, regulatory change, or change within a health system or other health care site that results in positive health outcomes.

Pharmacy Alumni Society Awards

Distinguished Pharmacist Award

Distinguished Pharmacist Award candidates are preferably an alumnus of the University of Minnesota and preferably a non-academic pharmacist who has demonstrated outstanding leadership or contributions to the practice of pharmacy, healthcare, the College of Pharmacy, the University of Minnesota, the Pharmacy Alumni Society or a combination of these, and is a community leader and involved in civic affairs.

Century Mortar Club Awards

The Weaver Medal

The Lawrence C. and Delores M. Weaver Medal is given annually and recognizes an individual or group for providing sustained and distinguished support of the College of Pharmacy, or for an outstanding contribution to pharmacy education, practice, research or outreach. Contributions can be in all or any single area recognized by the award.

Samuel W. Melendy Lecture

The Samuel W. Melendy Lecture annual lectureship emphasizes the scientific, ethical and professional aspects of pharmacy. Melendy was a staunch supporter of the College of Pharmacy and as a member of the Minnesota State Pharmaceutical Association, he played an active role in promoting the college's establishment at the University in 1882.
