Congratulations to our graduate student poster presentation winners who presented research at MIKIW 2021 this spring. The winners are:

Maxwell Dillenburg, a graduate student in the Wagner Lab, has received an American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education Pre-doctoral Fellowship! The goal of the fellowship program is to positively impact patient and public health by supporting high performing students who possess the skill and aptitude to become outstanding scientists and leaders in the pharmaceutical industry, academia, and the government/nonprofit sectors.
Jian Tang (Harki lab) and Yiao Wang (Wagner Lab), have both been selected to receive a 2021-22 Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship. The Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship gives the University's most accomplished Ph.D.
Congratulations to Dr. Yupeng Li on his promotion to Research Assistant Professor! Dr. Li's research focuses on tobacco-caused carcinogenesis and chemoprevention in Dr. Stephen Hecht's laboratory.

Dr. Gunda Georg gave her Alfred Burger Award Lecture at the 2021 ACS Spring meeting on April 6th. The lecture took place during the award ceremony to honor the 2020 ACS awardees. The Alfred Burger Award recognizes outstanding contributions to research in medicinal chemistry.

Congrats to MD/PhD graduate student Erik Faber of the Georg lab for receiving the Veneziale-Steer Award from the University of Minnesota's Medical School. The award recognizes outstanding basic scientific research by a graduate student or a medical student in the field of cellular growth regulation.
Dr. Elizabeth Ambrose and Grad Student Connor McDermott Presenting on Paleopharma at ACS Spring 2021

Dr. Elizabeth Ambrose and Connor McDermott, a graduate student in Dr. Ambrose's lab, will be presenting their research on paleopharmaceuticals from baltic amber at the spring 2021 meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS). As Dr. Ambrose explained in a press release to the ACS,

Carston “Rick” Wagner, PhD, has been named the 2021 recipient of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy’s (AACP) Volwiler Research Achievement Award.
Erik Faber has been selected to receive the 2021 Abul-Hajj/Hanna Exceptional Graduate Student Award in Medicinal Chemistry. This award is given yearly for the quantity and quality of research accomplishments, the quality of the original research proposal for the oral exam, the quality of seminars and colloquia, the Graduate Course Grade-point average since entering the program, and service and citizenship in Departmental affairs. Erik is a member of the Georg research group.
A new Team Science Grant has been awarded to Okay Saydam, MSc, PhD (Pediatric Hematology and Oncology) and Gunda Georg, PhD (Medicinal Chemistry and ITDD). Henry Wong, PhD (ITDD and Medicinal Chemistry) will oversee the pharmacokinetic studies. The title is: Exploring Novel Therapeutics for Pediatric and Adult Glioblastoma. The $250,000 award is for two years and is supported by the Minnesota Masonic Charities.
