Philip Portoghese Receives Research Achievement Award

Philip S. Portoghese, PhD, has been selected to receive the 2020 Research Achievement Award in the Pharmaceutical Sciences. The award recognizes and encourages outstanding, meritorious achievement in and of the pharmaceutical sciences.

Portoghese will receive the award at the APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition in National Harbor, MD, on March 20-23, 2020 The APhA Awards and Honors Program is the most comprehensive recognition program in the profession of pharmacy.

Portoghese's research focus has been in the area of opioids and opioid receptors. He has served as the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry (1972-2011) for the American Chemical Society. With graduate faculty appointments in pharmacology and neuroscience, in addition to his home department, Portoghese has ongoing research collaborations in these departments and elsewhere at the University of Minnesota.
