Department of Experimental & Clinical Pharmacology Welcomes New Faculty Member, Shen Cheng, PhD

February 26, 2024

Shen Cheng

Cheng is a 2021 graduate of the department’s graduate program where he majored in pharmacometrics and minored in biostatistics. His thesis work used a pharmacometric modeling approach to investigate the impact of pharmacogenetic differences in drug-drug interactions (DDIs).

Upon graduating Cheng joined the Metrum Research Group, an international biomedical consultancy group, where he has supported drug modeling and simulation for the pharmaceutical industry.

“I am honored to return to the Department of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology as a faculty member,” said Chent. “The ECP department has always been a pioneer in pharmacometric education and research, and I am excited to contribute to its legacy. I humbly envision fostering an environment where innovation in quantitative pharmacology not only thrives but also directly translates to improved patient care.”

Dr. Cheng will be a welcome addition to the faculty members in the ECP department, where the goals are to lead in the innovation, development and application of pharmacometric modeling which aid in forecasting drug response so as to optimize therapeutic outcomes.

“Pharmacometrics remains a key focus area within the ECP graduate program and department,” said Dr. Robert Straka, department head. We look forward to supporting and learning from Dr. Cheng as he brings his unique experiences to our graduate program and develops his research program at the College of Pharmacy.”
