Vail Award

The nonprofit organization provides community-based recovery services

The University of Minnesota Occupational Therapy Program was recently honored as the 2025 Vail Communities Professional Development Partner of the Year.

Vail Communities is a nonprofit organization that provides community-based recovery services for adults with serious mental illness. Three clubhouses (Hopkins, Uptown, Ramsey County) provide services for persons with serious mental illness, and are critical for supporting members' success in recovery, health maintenance, and stability within the community. Evidence supports its value in preventing hospitalizations and improving quality of life.

“We have placed over 50 Level I, Level II and Capstone students at Vail Communities since 2017,” said Diane Anderson, program director, Department of Occupational Therapy. “OT students, under faculty direction, have made a significant difference in advancing Vail Community program development and community engagement.”
