Corey McGee, PhD, MS, OTR/L, CHT, FAOTA, associate professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy has been named to the American Occupational Therapy Association’s (AOTA) Roster of Fellows. As indicated by AOTA, the honor “recognizes occupational therapists who through their knowledge, expertise, leadership, advocacy, and/or guidance have made a significant contribution over time to the profession with a measured impact on consumers of occupational therapy services and/or members of the Association.”
McGee was honored for his remarkable contributions to the profession, particularly his extensive contributions to research, education, program development, and service.
“Our department has a long history of faculty who have been named to this prestigious roster,” said McGee. “This history, in addition to the countless other contributions made by our faculty, demonstrate our strong collective dedication to advancing our profession. It is my honor to be awarded this distinction on behalf of the department, college and University.”

Throughout his career at the U of M, he has directed or co-directed 57 course offerings and instructed in 18 additional course offerings within the University’s MOT, OTD, and Rehabilitation Science Programs. He has also mentored and advised junior faculty, post-graduate clinical and research fellows, PhD students, OTD students, MSOT students, and undergraduate research students. He is the recipient of several U of M certificates for Outstanding Teaching and a Council of Graduate Students Outstanding Faculty Recognition Award.
Highlights of his service efforts include co-developing and serving as the academic coordinator of the MHealth/U of MN Hand Therapy Fellowship, the OT faculty supervisor for the U of M’s interprofessional student-led free clinic (Phillips Neighborhood Clinic), in the role of the OT Department Associate Head for Research, the OT department’s Rochester Performance Site Coordinator, committee work for AOTA and American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT), and peer reviewing grants and manuscripts for numerous professional organizations and scientific journals.
In addition to being added to AOTA’s Roster of Fellows, McGee’s combined contributions to the profession have earned him the recognition of being the 2014 Minnesota Occupational Therapy Association (MOTA) Researcher of the Year, 2014 recipient of the UMN Disability Resource Center’s Access Achievement Award, 2016 MOTA OT of the Year, and the 2019 recipient of the ASHT Nathalie Barr Award.
