On June 24, the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy, in collaboration with the MN Dept. of Health and HealthPartners, hosted a multi-stakeholder event to build payer-community provider relationships for provision of comprehensive medication management services. The event was titled: “Beyond the Slice: Building Payer-Community Provider Relationships that Generate Value,” which references the “Slice of PIE” project that engaged community pharmacies in HealthPartners’ “Partners in Excellence (PIE)” program. The event brought together 46 individuals, including payers, pharmacists, network representatives, and representatives from national pharmacy associations and clinical documentation systems. We celebrated the success of the pharmacies that achieved Silver and Gold awards in HealthPartners’ Partners in Excellence program, discussed clinical pharmacy performance/quality metrics, healthcare disparities, strategies for driving value, and pharmacists' role in achieving the Triple Aim. The positive energy and collaboration among these diverse stakeholders was amazing!

Through improved collaboration between payers and providers across Minnesota, our goal is to create more consistency for all organizations to be able to efficiently provide high-quality, value-based care that is reimbursed to ensure sustainability within the practice setting.  The College plans to continue to serve as a convener for these stakeholder groups to gather to advance pharmacy services and improve access, so that everyone in need has access to a pharmacist for comprehensive medication management services.
