Over the past few months, a number of drugs have been under investigation to treat COVID-19 without well-established safety or data to support these claims. However, some of these unproven therapies may have underlying genetic reasons for not being effective and resulting in fatal adverse effects as found with hydroxychloroquine.
When the COVID-19 pandemic began it became apparent that some populations were more affected by the virus than others. Research from Olihe Okoro, PhD, MPH, researcher and professor at the College of Pharmacy, Duluth, and partnering agencies, aimed to understand how members of her own community of Duluth were affected in order to provide more effective care around COVID-19.
