Dr. Kuchi S. Murthy and (the late) Swatantra Bharathi Murthy Endowed Fellowship in Pharmaceutics

The College of Pharmacy is pleased to announce a new endowed fellowship in Pharmaceutics—the Dr. Kuchi S. Murthy and (the late) Swatantra Bharathi Murthy Fellowship.

Dr. Murthy earned his MS and PhD in Pharmaceutics in 1966 and 1968. It was the financial support of a teaching assistantship that made it possible for Dr. Murthy to leave his home country of India, seek education and training at one of the top pharmacy schools in the country, and subsequently pursue his American dream of a successful career in the U.S.

After earning his degrees, he spent a year as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy before starting his career at Parke-Davis, which later merged with Warner-Lambert and ultimately Pfizer.

“With Dr. Murthy’s success in the U.S., he blazed a trail for other family members to follow in his footsteps and pursue their respective American dreams,” said Amy Polski Larson, Chief Development Officer at the College of Pharmacy. “Dr. Murthy has chosen to give back and provide similar opportunities for other students like him who, without financial support, would not be able to attend the College of Pharmacy.”
