A few resources to explore during National Disability Employment Awareness Month
Given the presence of disability and the imperative we have to support colleagues of all types, there are some simple considerations we can all take in our everyday work:
- Considering impairments when designing presentations and talks. Such considerations may include implementing color-sensitive design into a presentation, adding captions to photos and videos, or perhaps even including text-to-speech software in your presentation.
- Explore Accessible U - a support resource to help the University community cultivate more inclusive - digitally accessible - experiences on course sites, websites, Zoom meetings, documents, presentations, applications, etc.
- Being self-aware in how we interact with persons with disabilities. This may include how we write about disabilities and the language we use in general. Though it is most important to defer to the preferences of the audience you're communicating with, taking the most considerate approach possible is a good start until preferences can otherwise be made clear.
