The University of Minnesota had a cohort of faculty and students attend the High Throughput Chemistry and Chemical Biology Gordon Research Conference at Colby-Sawyer College in New Hampshire from July 27 - August 1.

This year’s conference was entitled: “Harnessing Chemical and Biological Data at Scale in Pursuit of Generative AI for Drug Discovery.” You can read more about the meeting here.

Both the Department of Medicinal Chemistry and the Department of Chemistry were well-represented, and contributions included:

  • Medicinal Chemistry’s Prof. Adam Duerfeldt gave a presentation on his group’s work entitled: “Data Driven Machine Learning Approach to Enable the Rational Design of Gram-Negative Penetrant Molecules.”
  • Chemistry’s Prof. William C. Pomerantz was Co-Vice Chair and will be Co-Chair of the meeting in 2027. Prof. Pomerantz is a Graduate Faculty member in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry.
  • Four students gave posters:
    • Medicinal Chemistry student Mackenzie Wyllie from Prof. Daniel Harki’s lab
    • Chemistry student Molly Sneddon from Prof. Will Pomerantz’s lab
    • Chemistry student Chun-Ju Tsou from Prof. Will Pomerantz’s lab
    • Chemistry student Hannah Addis from Prof. Erin Carlson’s lab

Prof. Carlson is also a Graduate Faculty member in our department, and we’re delighted to see so many members of our department and academic community present and engaged at this meeting!

The Gordon Research Conferences are truly science-focused and are always great opportunities for our students and faculty to network and present their research amongst a community of like-minded scientific peers.

Nice work, everyone!
