Gunda I. Georg Awarded Duane D. Miller Lectureship at UTHSC
May 28, 2026
The Department is pleased to announce that Professor Gunda I. Georg was awarded the Duane D. Miller Lectureship at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center. The annual award recognizes a small molecule drug discovery expert and is named after the esteemed Dr. Duane Miller, who is now an Emeritus Professor at the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy. You can read more about UTHSC and the award here.
Dr. Georg’s lecture was entitled "Discovery and development of a male pill by targeting the retinoid signaling pathway with YCT-529 for effective, reversible oral contraception," and it focused largely on her development of a first-in-class oral, reversible, and non-hormonal male contraceptive. The drug has been licensed by YourChoice Therapeutics and is now in phase 2 clinical trials.
Prof. Georg is a fixture in both our department and the field of medicinal chemistry. We’re proud to see her contributions to drug discovery and medicinal chemistry recognized, and excited to see how she will expand on her already impressive legacy in the years to come.
