The Department of Medicinal Chemistry is pleased to announce that Dr. Daniel Harki has been named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. Prof. Harki is Northrop Professor and Margaret Harvey Schering Land Grant Chair for Cancer Research, in addition to his roles as Associate Department Head and Director of Graduate Studies.
Established in 1841 and granted a Royal Charter by Queen Victoria in 1848, the Royal Society of Chemistry has been advancing excellence in the chemical sciences for over 175 years. It has over 50,000 members worldwide.
To become a fellow, one must be nominated by other members for a distinguished career in research in the chemical sciences. In addition, fellows often engage in outreach, policy work, and other actions that benefit the chemical science community. Fellows have an influential position in that their expertise and experience allows them to share their commitment to the chemical sciences and demonstrate its value to society.
Prof. Harki received this honor in recognition of his significant contributions to medicinal chemistry, drug development, and chemical biology. In addition, Prof. Harki holds a leadership position in the American Chemical Society, Division of Medicinal Chemistry, as a member of the Executive Committee and Chair of Membership and International Relationships. Research in the Harki Lab focuses on the design, synthesis, and biological characterization of novel small molecules for applications as anticancer and antiviral agents.
