Claire Kolar and Kristin Janke Honored for Outstanding Work in National Pharmacy Education Journal

The American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) will honor University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy Professors Claire Kolar, PharmD, PhD, and Kristin K. Janke, PhD, with the Rufus A. Lyman Award in July. This award recognizes the best paper published in the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education (AJPE) in 2019. 

The paper, “Aiding Transformation from Student to Practitioner by Defining Threshold Concepts for the Pharmacists’ Patient Care Process,” sought to describe the milestones in the transition of a student to practitioner by identifying critical threshold concepts involved in the learning of the Pharmacists’ Patient Care Process (PPCP).

Kolar is an adjunct assistant professor at the University and the director of operations for commercial research and education for Fairview Ventures, an innovation lab for commercialization within Fairview Health Services. Janke, is a professor and the director of the Wulling Institute for Innovation & Scholarship in Pharmacy Education at the University of Minnesota.

“This manuscript makes a significant contribution to pharmacy education because of its timeliness, originality and significant impact to the education of our students and the practice of pharmacy as colleges/schools work in the transition of our students to become practitioners through the use of the Pharmacists’ Patient Care Process (PPCP),” said Gayle A. Brazeau, Ph.D., editor of AJPE. “I congratulate Dr. Kolar and Dr. Janke on their excellent paper.”

The authors will be honored with a monetary prize and plaque on July 21 during the Tuesday General Session Pharmacy Education 2020 at the AACP Annual Meeting in Long Beach, Calif. The conference offers educational programming, exhibits, networking events and award presentations.
