Welcome from the Director

As I reflect on this transformative year, I am filled with pride at the remarkable achievements and milestones we've celebrated together. Our program reached a significant landmark – 25 years of excellence in pharmacy residency education – a testament to the dedication of countless individuals who have shaped our program's legacy.
One of our most notable accomplishments was completing a successful accreditation site visit. This achievement reflects the tireless efforts of our entire team in preparing and showcasing the strength of our program.
This year also brought significant transitions in our leadership team. We bid farewell to Dr. Jean Moon, our past director, as she embarked on a new journey in an administrative role at the College of Pharmacy. Jean served in the role of Program Director since 2016 and under her leadership the program flourished as it expanded, adapted, and innovated to meet the needs of residents and the changing healthcare landscape. We are grateful that Jean remains a part of the program serving as a preceptor at Broadway Family Medicine. We also said goodbye to Dr. Stephanie Swanson, who transitioned to a clinical position outside the University. Stephanie served as Associate Program Director for more than 3 years and was a tireless advocate for residents and sites and was responsible for developing our program’s resilience curriculum. Jean and Stephanie’s contributions to our program have been invaluable, and their impact will continue to resonate through the countless residents they've mentored and initiatives they've championed. Their legacy lives on in our program's culture of excellence, innovation, and dedication to developing the next generation of pharmacy leaders. In September, we welcomed Dr. Lucas Cannon, pharmacist and preceptor at CUHCC and alumni of the residency program into the role of Associate Program Director.
I am honored to step into the role of Program Director. As a past graduate of the program, I have always had pride and respect for this program and the quality of training it provides. In my short time back with the program, I have seen first hand the dedication and commitment of our incredible preceptors, site coordinators, and Residency Advisory Committee in providing an outstanding learning experience for residents. I am incredibly grateful for our outstanding administrative team who keep our program running smoothly. Amy Pavelka, our Program Coordinator, serves as the cornerstone of our program's operations, ensuring seamless coordination across all aspects of the program. Dr. Jody Lounsbery's expert management of our coursework and her role as a site liaison continues to be invaluable. We are also fortunate to have Dr. Lucas Cannon managing our resilience curriculum and serving as a site liaison, bringing fresh perspectives to our program.
Here's to another year of continued excellence in pharmacy residency education!
Sincerely,
Maggie Ricco, PharmD, MS, BCACP
