CentraCare is a not-for-profit health system that provides comprehensive, high-quality care to people throughout Central, West Central, and Southwest Minnesota. It is comprised of 9 hospital locations, more than 30 clinic locations, 3 retail pharmacy locations, among other services.

Pharmacy Services:

CentraCare St. Cloud began providing comprehensive medication management services in 2010 in the family practice setting. Since 2016, ambulatory pharmacy services have grown to include both primary and specialty clinic locations. CentraCare pharmacy services also includes three community clinic pharmacies and a specialty pharmacy.

Educational Experience

The residency will be centered upon developing clinical skills and learning to care for patients through comprehensive medication management. In addition, the resident will strengthen practice management and teaching/precepting skills. Practice sites for the resident may a variety of Family and Internal Medicine experiences, plus specialty clinic experiences. The expectation for the resident will be to work collaboratively with the clinic care team to provide comprehensive medication management as well as focused drug information. By the completion of the residency year, the resident will learn the skills necessary to maintain a successful ambulatory pharmacy practice.

Jessica Lind, PharmD, BCACP, BCACP, is the Director of CentraCare’s MTM and Anticoagulation Services Department. She is a graduate of the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy. She completed a PGY-1 residency at FirstLight (now Welia) Health System in Mora, MN and a PGY-2 ambulatory practice development residency at Hennepin County Medical Center. Jessica began providing care for patients at CentraCare Paynesville in 2013 following completion of her residency programs.  In 2016, she transitioned her role to St. Cloud to assist with the continued development and expansion of the ambulatory pharmacy department at CentraCare. Jessica is a current member of the Board of Directors for the Minnesota Pharmacists’ Association.  Her pharmacy interests include ambulatory pharmacy practice development and rural pharmacy practice.

Preceptors

Michael F. AkersPharmD. Dr. Akers provides clinical pharmacy services in transitions of care. He also oversees a five-week patient care APPE rotation and is a primary preceptor for a PGY-1 ambulatory care pharmacy residency program through the University of Minnesota’s College of Pharmacy. Dr. Aker’s exceptional precepting abilities have been recognized in recent years. In 2015 and in 2016, he was a nominee for the North Dakota preceptor of the year award. In 2016, he received the Preceptor of the Year Award, (Parliament of Distinction Award) from University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy for his preceptorship of residents within the PGY-1 Ambulatory Care residency program. In 2017, he received the Preceptor of the Year from the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy for his preceptorship of APPE students. Outside of work, Mike enjoys spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, and taking on do-it-yourself projects at home.

Jennifer Hiemenz, PharmD is a clinic ambulatory (MTM) pharmacist at CentraCare. She graduated from North Dakota State University College of Pharmacy. Next, she completed a PGY-1 residency with Coborn’s Pharmacy/Family Medical Center in Little Falls, MN. Following residency, Jennifer was hired for a position at CentraCare Pain Center. Her role focuses on medication safety and monitoring for patients with chronic pain. Pharmacy interests include using buprenorphine for chronic pain, opioid tapers, and tracking development of new non-opioid pain medications.

Keith Karsky, BSPharm, RPh, serves as the Director of Outpatient and Specialty Pharmacy Services for CentraCare and has been with CentraCare since 2001. Keith has responsibility for CentraCare’s specialty pharmacy services and three retail pharmacies.  His emphasis is on growth and pharmacist and program development such as bedside delivery of medications, pharmacist administered immunizations, and allowing pharmacists to utilize their pharmacy expertise and practice at the top of their license.  Prior to his current position, Keith was the Pharmacist in Charge at CentraCare Pharmacy Health Plaza. Keith earned his pharmacy degree from North Dakota State University and is a registered pharmacist
and preceptor in the state of Minnesota.

Julie C Moriak, PharmD, is a clinical ambulatory (MTM) pharmacist for CentraCare.  She is a 2002 graduate of the University of Minnesota – College of Pharmacy.  Her pharmacy career has included many different facets of pharmacy practice including hospital inpatient, hospital outpatient, oncology, long-term care pharmacy, long-term care consulting, retail/community, infusion pharmacy, and precepting pharmacy students.  Julie’s pharmacy interests include collaborative practice, addiction medicine, psychopharmacology, and correctional medicine.
