David Vermeulen
David Vermeulen is currently pursuing his Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Minnesota with an expected graduation date of May 2018. He is originally from the Central Valley of California and received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Davis in 2014.
Throughout his undergraduate career, David was consistently involved with extracurricular activities around the university. As a resident advisor and teaching assistant, he became a mentor for other students and excelled at integrating people from starkly different backgrounds to share common experiences. During his junior year, David was elected President of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity where he pushed the members to explore novel opportunities for the fraternity and themselves which led to events fundraising significant amounts of money for Ducks Unlimited and The Wounded Warrior Project. Just before graduation, he was awarded "Senior of the Year" by his fraternity brothers, which recognizes the outgoing senior who has contributed the most to the fraternity throughout his time in the organization.
In his time at the college, David has been actively involved with the Minnesota Pharmacy Student Alliance (MPSA), the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA), and the College of Pharmacy's student government (College Board). As Vice President of MPSA (2015-2016) and Treasurer for College Board (2016-2017), he has advocated for fiscal responsibility and transparency while using creative money management solutions that incentivize students to pursue new and innovative ideas. As a member of the NCPA chapter's student business planning team, he and his teammates finished 3rd place and were recognized as a Top 10 Finisher in back-to-back years competing in the NCPA Good Neighbor Pharmacy Pruitt-Schutte Student Business Plan Competition. Currently, he is working to expand entrepreneurial education, business knowledge, and idea sharing among students at the college of pharmacy.
Outside of the college, David works as a pharmacy intern at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Minneapolis and has completed a summer internship at GuidePoint Pharmacy in Nisswa, MN.
David's long-term career goal is to further innovation in community pharmacy through technology integration, ease of access, and exceptional patient-centered care.
