Leading Change in Pharmacy Practice

The College of Pharmacy not only educates students for a changing practice world, we also work to promote that change. That’s why the college is an active participant in advocating for and developing new and sustainable practice models and roles for the pharmacist practitioner.

Our first success is the inclusion of medication therapy management (MTM) as a benefit in the University of Minnesota’s health plan with 37,000 covered individuals. The college’s Duluth campus has also successfully worked with the City of Duluth to include MTM in its health care benefit design for city employees.

Due to these successes, the college established and manages a medication management network of pharmacists and pharmacies in Minnesota who are willing to provide medication management to patients who belong to the health plans we contract with. It started with UPlan patients (the University’s employees) and has expanded to state employees, with plans to expand further.
