Dr. Shim currently heads up Health Economics Outcomes Research (HEOR) and Managed Markets/LTC Field Medical, in Medical Affairs at ACADIA, a biopharmaceutical company. Prior professional practice settings include Pfizer, Hospira, Astellas, Novartis, Express Scripts, and Allina Health Systems.

He has been actively practicing in managed markets since 1999 and has diverse experience in multiple healthcare segments and government programs. His areas of expertise include clinical policy, trend management, medical strategies, clinical programs, HEOR, formulary, and utilization management. In biopharmaceuticals as well as managed markets, Dr. Shim held multiple leadership positions, and has extensive experience in medical affairs, product launches, building teams, field medial team oversight, and clinical development, both in US and globally.

Dr. Shim’s interest also extends beyond pharmacy into healthcare law, regulatory, compliance, and various management and leadership topics. His experience and execution are diverse from conducting economic & utilization analysis, outcomes research, building registries, and overseeing observational studies to leading phase 2-4 clinical trials.

Dr. Shim is very passionate about and committed to teaching future PharmD professionals, especially in the areas of managed care, HEOR, and biopharmaceutics, and has been involved with the UMN College of Pharmacy since 2001. He was previously the Course Director for Pharmacy Law and is current the Course Director for Phar 6236.
