From The Dean

Dean SpeedieDear Alumni and Friends,

I am very proud to report that our college ranked second in this year’s U.S.News & World Report’s ranking of pharmacy schools. The college moved up one spot from its third place ranking in 2012, the last time U.S.News ranked pharmacy schools. The rankings are based upon the results of peer assessment surveys sent to leaders in pharmacy schools across the country.

The second place ranking is the highest the college has ever been ranked, and also makes the college the top ranked school at the University of Minnesota.

Needless to say, we are extremely proud to be recognized as one of the very best pharmacy schools in the nation. I believe we are among the best because we are strong in all three missions:

Research – Our faculty perform cutting-edge research in areas like drug discovery and development, drug delivery, personalized/precision medicine, health equity, outcomes of new models of practice, and pharmacoeconomics.

Education – We offer an innovative education across two campuses, with an emphasis on rural and underserved populations. Also, we are fortunate to be part of a comprehensive academic health center, which allows us to provide our students an interprofessional education to prepare them to work efficiently and effectively on today’s health care teams.

Service – Our faculty, students and alumni work with underserved communities, both in rural and
urban areas, to increase their access to outstanding health care, including medication management. Also, as the only pharmacy school in the state, it is our mission to lead practice development to improve the health of the people of Minnesota.

Our ranking reflects the outstanding performance of our alumni who are in high demand, and our many alumni who are national leaders in pharmacy. We teach leadership and we practice it—and it is a noteworthy component of our reputation.

Of course our ranking also reflects the exceptional work, dedication and high standards our students, faculty and staff set for themselves and their colleagues. Additionally, our ranking attracts outstanding faculty and students who in turn do the great work that attracts national visibility and allows us to serve patients better.

Thank you for all that you do to make the College of Pharmacy exceptional. Please join me in celebrating our recognition as one of the best pharmacy schools in the country!
