Retreat Helps Students Focus on their Leadership Journey
Seventy students from both campuses participated in the Leadership Fall Retreat “Taking a Deep Breath on Our Leadership Journey” at Ruttgers Bay Lake Lodge in northern Minnesota.
Facilitated by Kerry Fierke and Todd Sorensen, the retreat included a variety of teambuilding activities and presentations on personal leadership journeys. Several residents, graduate students and PDIV facilitators also helped with the event.
The Student Leadership Retreat was made possible by a collegiate endowment, originally established by a gift from Walmart.
“The most valuable thing I came back with is new friends. For me, making friends also gives me more confidence to be a leader because I know that there are people who are willing to have my back. I also appreciate gaining new perspectives, especially regarding time management.”
“It was great to reflect, learn about myself, and also spend some quality time with classmates from both campuses. It was worth setting aside homework and work obligations for the memories and lessons learned.”
“I felt like I got a lot more out of this retreat than I had expected. This experience gave me a lot to digest in terms of leadership concepts like storytelling and time/priority management. I feel like the content was worthwhile and I can continue to use the information as I move forward in rotations and my career.”
