2018 Pharmacy Day Included Outdoor Activities, Annual MPSA Auction

5KStudents, faculty and staff celebrated annual Pharmacy Day on April 27. The daylong event included student-organized activities like a 5k walk/run, volleyball and kickball tournaments, and other outdoor activities.

In the evening, the Minnesota Pharmacy Student Alliance (MPSA) hosted a derby-themed live and silent auction at the Campus Club, Coffman Memorial Union on the Twin Cities campus. More than 120 people attended the event, which started with a banquet recognizing student leaders and the swearing in of the new MPSA executive board, followed by auction festivities including derby- and horse-themed games, a wine pull, a photo booth, raffles, and a live and silent auction.

The event raised $13,484, which will be used to support students attending regional and national pharmacy conferences and other career and professional development, as well as student service activities, including procuring patient care supplies for students to provide point-of-care health services and education to the public.

MPSADuring the 2017–18 school year, MPSA hosted more than 180 community outreach and professional development events across both campuses and directly served over 3,700 Minnesotans by providing free education and point-of-care services such as immunizations, cholesterol and blood pressure checks, blood glucose screenings, and more.

“Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time, talent or treasure to ensuring the continuing work of student pharmacists in the community and in advancing the profession,” said Kelly Potz, MPSA president. “Thank you also to our MPSA auction coordinators, Paige Salwai and Crissy Guimaraes, for their dedication and selfless service to this annual fundraising event that enables pharmacy students to have an abundance of opportunities for growth. Our sincerest gratitude to everyone who helps make this event happen year after year.”
