Program Background and History

The Graduate Program in Pharmacy Administration was approved by the University in early 1970. Since then the name has changed several times, and the character of the studies has evolved as developments have dictated, but the founding principles have been maintained. The principles guiding the program are to offer a high-caliber opportunity to prepare researchers, educators and administrators to deal with the complex questions seen in the drug use process.

The program has over 150 graduates. Millions of dollars in external funding have supported important research. In 2000, the program name was changed to Social, Administrative and Clinical Pharmacy and two tracks were established, the Social and Administrative Pharmacy track and the Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology track. The Social, Administrative and Clinical Pharmacy program will continue traditions, yet build new ones designed to equip the present graduate student with the skills needed to compete in an ever-evolving world of pharmacy.
