Residency Home introduction

Welcome from the Director

Thank you for your interest in the Ambulatory Care Residency Program at the University of Minnesota!  Our program is focused on preparing practitioners for patient-centered practice in ambulatory care settings.  You will note that we offer many different types of residency experiences, allowing residents to focus on issues such as clinic-based or community pharmacy-based practices, care for indigent and culturally diverse populations, rural health care delivery as well as leadership and preparation for careers in academia.  If your practice interest is in providing pharmaceutical care to ambulatory patients, I’m sure we have a residency opportunity that will meet your expectations!

Our program was formally established in 1999 and is accredited by the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists. The size and diversity of our program provides many advantages to residents, such as the ability to learn about practice models in multiple settings, availability of group learning activities and an opportunity to develop collegiality with a group of fellow residents.

The University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy is recognized as an international leader in pharmacy education and practice development and our faculty is known for their work in building the practice of pharmaceutical care.  This experience combined with excellent preceptors teaching in innovative practices allows us to provide a highly unique and valuable residency experience.

I encourage you to read our Mission and Vision statements. We feel that one of the unique aspects of our program is that we not only recognize our purpose to prepare skilled individual practitioners, but we also see the program as a conduit to advancing pharmacy practice in ambulatory settings.  We do this through our program’s academic-practice partnerships as well as through the work of our residency graduates. On behalf of our preceptors, current residents and myself, we look forward to opportunities to discuss our program with you and hope that you will consider joining us in achieving our mission!
