The Department of Pharmacy Practice and Pharmaceutical Sciences, or PPPS, is one of five academic departments within the College of Pharmacy and located in Duluth. Our multidisciplinary faculty is comprised of basic, clinical, social, and behavioral scientists with expertise in both pharmaceutical sciences and practice. Faculty and students are involved in collaborative efforts with their medical school and nursing school colleagues.
Our mission is to provide outstanding education, excellence in research, and service to the public and other health professions. The department emphasizes rural health care issues and the provision of pharmaceutical care in rural and tribal communities and is committed to providing these services to the communities of Greater Minnesota. To that end, expansion of the Pharm.D. program to the Duluth campus was made primarily to address two initiatives: 1) to increase the number of pharmacy graduates, thereby helping to alleviate the shortage of pharmacists, and 2) to serve the needs of Greater Minnesota by focusing on rural healthcare and placement of pharmacists to rural areas.
