Institution
This site offers a culturally diverse setting with many opportunities for counseling patients on OTC and prescription products, as well as a private counseling room.

As a member of the healthcare team, our mission is to motivate and empower patients to improve their quality of life by achieving positive and cost-effective outcomes through awareness, caring, education, and training.

Pharmacy Services
This site offers traditional pharmacy services, as well as MTM services, specialized Diabetes Care services (both individual and group education opportunities), immunizations, and select wellness screenings (including A1C, blood glucose, blood pressure, BMD, cholesterol, anemia, prostate, and thyroid). This pharmacy is also a community pharmacy practice residency site.

Teaching Philosophy
Our teaching philosophy is centered at providing appropriate direct instruction, modeling, coaching, and facilitation.  We think learning best occurs in a hands-on environment, and we focus on turning all activities into learning opportunities.

Resources
There is free parking, easy access to restaurants, wireless internet, and a small office space available.

APPE Structure
The majority of the time spent will be at the pharmacy site, with the opportunity to go off-site for learning activities as they become available (for example: may assist TAs at the University COP, participate in company-sponsored health fairs, or attend presentations given by the resident at community centers).

Student Roles and Responsibilities
The student’s roles and responsibilities include:

  • Medication counseling
  • Presenting at journal club
  • Writing a drug information response
  • Spending time with an MTM specialist and with a Diabetes Care pharmacist
  • Attending University opportunities as available
  • Attending company-sponsored events as available (for example: blood glucose testing at the State Fair, immunization clinics, etc.)
