Teaching Philosophy

In order for students to become effective managers, they will need to have great problem-solving skills.  Here at Cub pharmacy we are committed to helping students develop these skills along with communication skills.  Students will be coached to develop critical thinking skills that will allow them to function with minimal supervision.

Institution
Cub Pharmacy Brooklyn Park North is a fairly new pharmacy.  It has been steadily growing since the day it opened.  This facility has 2 full time pharmacists and a Now Care clinic connected that keeps the pharmacy busy.

Pharmacy Services
Pharmacists Stacie Gallentine and Netsanet Yibarek provide their patients with excellent customer service.  Services provided include counseling on each prescription and advice on choosing OTC items.  Immunizations are provided year round.  Clinical testing services include, A1c, TSH, TSA, blood glucose, lipid panels, and anemia testing.  Stacie also is a Level 1 diabetes care pharmacist and provides diabetes services to her patients.

Professionalism and Assessment
Main preceptor will be responsible for all assessments and grading.

Resources
Cub Pharmacy, located within Cub Foods, is a spacious pharmacy to work in.  Internet access is limited to pharmacy-related services.

APPE Structure
This site is designed for one student at a time.  Students will spend time meeting with their preceptor, learning the responsibilities of a pharmacy manager.  They will have patient contact to boost their communication skills.  They will also spend about 50% of their time in self-directed roles.

Student Roles and Responsibilities
Students will conduct literature reviews to better understand the management tools that they will need to possess.  Students will also work with the pharmacy manager by attending meetings when applicable.  Students will interact with pharmacists, technicians, other health care providers, and patients.
