Teaching Philosophy

Our teaching style is to provide the student opportunities to learn and be exposed to a retail pharmacy environment through shadowing, “quizzing” and applying pharmacy knowledge through direct contact with patients.  It is important for students to leave this rotation with a firm understanding of what happens in retail pharmacy and with increased confidence in performing pharmacist duties.

Institution
CashWise is a retail pharmacy located within a grocery store.  The pharmacy is adjacent to a Health Partners Health Station which allows for some interaction with PA’s.  The pharmacy is busy and uses the Innovation system for automation and Pharmaserv for processing.

Pharmacy Services
There are 3 full-time and 2 part-time pharmacists that work at CashWise.  We provide patient counseling on all new prescriptions and are available to patients for other counseling.  The pharmacy is set-up and equipped to perform MTM services.  This rotation also includes time spent at Coborn’s Long Term Care Pharmacy.

Professionalism and Assessment
Grading and performance assessment is done by the preceptor according to COP guidelines.

Resources
The student will have some computer/internet access, free parking in the store parking lot. There is a full deli on site and many restaurants very near.
