Teaching PhilosophyThe goal of this rotation is to become familiar with the operation of a pharmacy within a clinic, in this case, the University of Minnesota Boynton Health Service clinic. Emphasis is placed on fulfilling the competency objectives listed in the State Board of Pharmacy’s Internship Competency Manual. Particular attention is focused on the two major classes of drugs dispensed in a student health service pharmacy: oral contraceptives and anti-depressants. Readings on these drugs as well as five major categories of OTC agents are provided. Preceptor and intern will then discuss these topics as time permits. Opportunities are given to counsel patients and communicate with providers on questions that may arise (and sometimes require researching). One day a week is allowed for the PharmD away from site to read assigned readings, research patient or provider inquiries or consolidate material. |
