APPE Structure The student will begin the rotation with an IV skills review. This includes compounding medications, training in central and peripheral lines, and review of different pump options for patients at home and in nursing homes. Working loosely with our technical and support staff will be important in this portion of the rotation. Once that is completed the student will work directly with a pharmacist on new referrals/patient admissions. The student will be assigned patients as they are admitted. The patients assigned to the student will require different services from Progressive Health Care to give the student the most exposure to all of our services. There are written expectations of the student for initial assessment of the patient, weekly follow-up and discharge requirements. Depending on the patient load, the students will get at least 1 home visit to admit a patient. Much of our assessment is obtained from phone conversations with the patient and nurse, so the student will be expected to effectively communicate on the telephone.
