Pharmacy Services Longbella Drug serves patients in 3 counties with 4 locations. The 3 clinic stores provide access to Lakewood Health System’s health care team and enjoy close working relationships. MTM services are under developement. Lani Longbella Roberts is the owner and pharmacist.
The ambulatory care rotation at Lakewood Health System is supervised from Longbella Drug. Pat Ryle, RPh is the preceptor. Although students will be working at Lakewood Clinics, they may contact, Lani, Pat or Jody Ellingson, Pharm D at Longbella Drug at any time.
The pharmacists at Lakewood Health System (Brian, Sean, Mike and Julie) participate in Pain management, Hospice, Chemo and other aspects of the student’s education.
Professionalism and Assessment A facility orientation prior to the first day of rotation. Schedule this with the preceptor.
An introduction to the APPE rotation outcomes and walk through introductions will occur the first morning of the rotation.
Two evaluations will occur; a mid-term evaluation to establish progress and identify the focus of the remaining weeks, and a final evaluation based on outcomes met and mentor feedback.
Resources Computer: You may use your personal laptop to access LHS’s computer network. Your work space will vary with the practitioner and site.
Parking: Free parking is available in adjoining lots to the main hospital and all remote clinics.
Dining: Employee discounts are available at the main hospital and clinic dining room, or bring your lunch. Break rooms at the remote clinics have microwave and refrigerators for your convenience; or order from the local cafes.

APPE Structure Work and Learn with a staff of Family Practice physicians, para-professionals, and out reach specialists. Lakewood Health System has a long-standing commitment to the education of the next generation of health professionals.
In a clinic setting, students will conduct medication histories, discuss and recommend therapies and participate in patient evaluation. The student will be able to seek out learning opportunities of interest including chemotherapy, pain management, senior services, hospice, urology, orthopedics, neurology, and family practice.
Student Roles and Responsibilities Students will review patient charts, interview & counsel patients, and observe all aspects of treating patients in a community clinic setting.
Students will participate in activities, including hub events, educational presentations and health fairs.
