APPE Structure
Students will spend most of the time providing patient care to anticoagulation patients.  This includes fingerstick blood tests, Coumadin (warfarin) dosing, and education. Students will also become familiar with the many interactions/ complications associated with warfarin therapy. Students may also participate in Asthma consults which include peak flow monitor and inhaler technique and writing up an action plan.  Tobacco Cessation consultations are also part of our service as well as general medication consults.  There is opportunity for special projects—often involving requests from other health care professionals or patients.  Students are given time during the work day to research and complete projects that are assigned.

Student Roles and Responsibilities
Most of the duties involve one on one patient care.—see above.   There are opportunities for written and oral presentations to other health care providers and also to patients.

Educational Opportunities:
Noon education conferences provided periodically by pharmaceutical reps.
