The Rochester region covers an expansive area of southern Minnesota, seeping slightly into Wisconsin. Rochester sits at the “center” of the region, surrounded by Red Wing, Wabasha, Austin, Winona, Rushford, Eau Claire and La Crosse, WI. There are exciting rotation sites available in each “sub section” of the region to enable the student to stay in one area for a full 15 weeks
Rochester is most famously known as the home of the Mayo Clinic. While this in and of itself is exciting, the rest of the region holds numerous attractive features as well. Not only do the APPEs offered provide a good educational experience, but free time can be spent in a variety of enjoyable ways. The region offers biking, hiking, boating, skiing, site seeing, history, shopping, dining, and other activities. Austin is home to the SPAM museum, a “must see.” Redwing is home to Redwing Shoes, the historic St. James hotel, and is “for romantics, poets, and dreamers.” Wabasha is home to the National Eagle Center, Grumpy Old Men movies location, and the Historic Anderson House "cat" hotel. The Rushford area boasts breathtaking views of the bluffs and valleys southern Minnesota is known for.
