Mankato Region

The Mankato region involves providing a wide variety of pharmacy services across in southern Minnesota, ranging from classic in-patient acute care to a state psychiatric security hospital to an independently owned community pharmacy with a strong focus on medication therapy management. The regions hub is located in Mankato, a city with a population of approximately 35,000 residents. It is situated at the confluence of the Minnesota and Blue Earth Rivers in south central Minnesota and remains renowned for breathtaking views among its many bluffs, lakes and parks. Students conducting advanced pharmacy practice experiences in Mankato will have a variety of opportunities between the city’s major hospital, an independently owned pharmacy specializing in veterinary compounding and a progressive ambulatory clinic affiliated with the University of Minnesota Medical Residency Program.

Other sites also included in the Mankato Region are located in the communities of Gaylord, Faribault and St. Peter, Minnesota. The St. Peter Regional Treatment Center, located only 10 minutes from the hub, offers students a unique opportunity to work with designated psychiatric treatment teams in the Minnesota Security Hospital. Meanwhile, students in assigned to experiences in Gaylord or Faribault will have a chance to practice among community pharmacy settings offering invaluable service to its patients and community through progressive collaborate practice arrangements and/or medication therapy management programs.
