Acute Patient Care

The Acute Care Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience is a required 10 week supervised clinical pharmacy experience in an adult inpatient setting. Through observation and practice, students will develop and explore their roles in an interdisciplinary health team. Students will attend clinical rounds, take medication histories, monitor drug therapy, provide patient education, and research patient-specific drug information questions. Students will interact with a number of different health care providers and participate in a variety of patient care activities with the pharmacy preceptor and medical team. The student will be provided with many opportunities to apply academic and didactic clinical coursework to patient care in the hospital setting. The student shall actively participate in the health care decision-making process, especially as it pertains to drug therapy.
