Campus Selection Procedure
NOTE: THE FOLLOWING CAMPUS SELECTION OPTIONS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.
The University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy admits students to both the Twin Cities and Duluth campuses. If you are selected for an interview, you will make one of the following selections on Interview Day:
1. I will only accept an offer of admission from the Twin Cities campus.
2. I will only accept an offer of admission from the Duluth campus.
3. I will accept an offer of admission from either campus but prefer the Twin Cities campus.
4. I will accept an offer of admission from either campus but prefer the Duluth campus.
5. I will accept an offer of admission from either campus; I have no preference.
We strongly recommend applicants research the campuses prior to attending Interview Day. Applicants cannot change their campus selection after Interview Day. Barring extraordinary circumstances, it will NOT be possible for a student to transfer campuses after enrollment.
Campus Assignment Procedure:
- Applicants who select options 1 or 2 will only be offered admission to the campus indicated.
- Applicants who select options 3 or 4 will be offered admission to their preferred campus, provided the campuses are filled in equal proportion. In cases where campus preference cannot be honored, application completion dates (date on which all application materials are received by the U of MN) will be used to determine priority in honoring campus selections from a particular interview day.
- Applicants who select option 5 will be assigned a campus according to admission needs in filling each campus porportionally from a particular interview day.
Campus Placement Procedures for Applicants Admitted from the Waitlist:
- The college operates one waitlist for both campuses, and offers positions to applicants as openings occur on either campus.
- Applicants who select options 1 or 2 will only be offered a position in the college if a position opens on the indicated campus.
- Applicants who select options 3, 4 or 5 will be offered a position in the college as soon as their number is reached in the waitlist. They will be obliged to accept that position, regardless of campus, or forfeit admission to the Pharm.D program.
Campus Selection and Improving Chances of Admission:
Selecting options 3, 4 or 5 will NOT improve an applicant’s chances of admission. The Admissions Committee admits applicants based on the admissions criteria and overall strength of their application, and not on which campus an applicant prefers to attend.
The only time that campus selection will affect admission to the program is in the case of waitlist placement. Offers are made from the waitlist as seats in the program become available. If, for example, the last seat in the program that opens is on the Duluth campus and the next applicant on the waitlist selected option 1, this applicant will not be offered admission to the Duluth campus. The seat will be offered to the next applicant on the waitlist who has indicated options 2, 3, 4 or 5.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q- Why would I select option 1 or 2?
A- I am confident that I would only be comfortable attending one of the two campuses.
Q- Why would I select option 3 or 4?
A- I would prefer attending one of the two campuses, however I would be comfortable attending either campus. I would not want to risk being passed up on the waitlist, should I be assigned to it. I understand that I am obliged to accept an offer to the campus assigned, even if I am not offered admission to my preferred campus.
Q- Why would I select option 5?
A- I really have no preference at all – I’d be happy with attending either campus. I understand that I am obliged to accept an offer to the campus assigned.
