Rod Carter, Pharm.D., associate dean for professional and external relations, has been elected as president-elect of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP). He currently serves as speaker of the house of AACP, and will officially become president-elect at the AACP annual meeting in July 2009. His presidential term runs 2010-2011. Dean Marilyn Speedie previously served as president of AACP from 2006-2007.

Carter came to the University of Minnesota in 2001 to develop the plans for the college’s expansion to the university’s Duluth campus.

Prior to joining the University, he served as the inaugural chair of pharmacy practice at Shenandoah University. He began his academic career at Purdue University as a clinical faculty member and preceptor in pharmacokinetics and cardiology and taught in the pharmacotherapy sequence. He also coordinated Purdue’s non-traditional Pharm.D. program from 1992 to 1996.

Carter received his bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from Drake University and his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Minnesota. His leadership and scholarship interests include experiential education, program and curriculum development, and a patient focus in pharmaceutical education.

AACP is a national organization comprised of 112 accredited colleges and schools of pharmacy that represents the interests of pharmacy education and educators.
