The University of Minnesota's Department of Medicinal Chemistry is one of the top-rated Medicinal Chemistry programs in the country. The department consists of a diverse group of faculty members, graduate students and postdoctoral-fellows working at the interface of chemistry and biology and is home to the editorial office of the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry.  Some areas of interest include antiviral drug design, cancer chemoprevention, carcinogenesis, peptidomimetics, receptor modeling, drug metabolism, gene therapy, combinatorial biosynthesis, natural product chemistry and NMR and X-ray crystallography. The department is part of the College of Pharmacy and Academic Health Center, which house national and internationally acclaimed programs in the areas of biochemistry, neuroscience, pharmacology, virology, immunology, cancer biology, structural biology, and drug delivery. The biomedical reputation and strong chemical expertise in the Department has enabled our faculty to capitalize on discoveries being made during the present age of biology. Consequently, our graduate students receive a diverse educational experience in chemistry and biology that prepares them for the evolving multidisciplinary research of the pharmaceutical industry and academic biomedical arena.
