Admissions

The Medicinal Chemistry program welcomes applications from students with pharmacy, chemistry, or biology degrees. Students majoring in other degree programs that encompass chemical, biochemical, or biological fields of study are also encouraged to apply.

  1. A grade point average indicative of a strong undergraduate academic performance and high scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) are required of all applicants.
  2. In addition, students from non-English speaking countries must submit either a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score or an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score.
  3. (The Graduate School website contains information about the  preferred performance level on these examinations.)
Graduate Student Recruitment Weekends
Upon consideration into the program, prospective graduate students are invited to visit the Department for one weekend. During this weekend, students will have an opportunity to interact with faculty and current students, and tour the  Department and University facilities, campus, and the Twin Cities. Attendance is highly recommended for prospective students, however, special arrangements can be made in the event of scheduling conflicts.
 
The Medicinal Chemistry Graduate Student Recruitment Weekend date is March 5-7, 2010. Mark your calendars and check back here for more information!  Additional information will also be sent to prospective students by e-mail and mail upon acceptance into the program.

Students who have been accepted into the program with the assurance of financial assistance receive such support in the form of either teaching assistantships, research assistantships, or fellowships. All students on assistantships and fellowships receive a tuition waiver and a comprehensive health care benefits package. Students are fully supported throughout the duration of their studies as long as satisfactory progress is being made toward a degree.
