Application Instructions


Applying to the Graduate Program in Medicinal Chemistry: requires the completion of two separate application packets:

Please Note:

  1. Each packet must be mailed separately to the appropriate address.
  2. Please only include the materials listed for each packet.
  3. Failure to send the applications to their correct addresses with only the requested materials will result in significant delay in the processing of the applications. It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure the arrival of all necessary documents to their correct recipients.
  4. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. You must fulfill all application requirements, including payment of the application fee, before your application is considered complete. Any inquiries about the application fee should be directed to the Graduate School.
  5. It is recommended that all materials for application be sent no later than December 15 in order to receive optimal consideration for admission in the Fall.

The Medicinal Chemistry Department requires the following to be sent to:

  1. Application for Admission to the Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Consideration for Graduate Assistantship or Fellowship form.
  2. An original or photocopy of transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended.
  3. Three letters of recommendation.  We do not use a recommendation form.
  4. An original or photocopy of your GREscores.The University of Minnesota Medicinal Chemistry GRE code is 6852.
  5. An original or photocopy of your TOEFL test score, if your native language is not English. The University of Minnesota Mpls./St. Paul institution code is 6874.
  6. A copy of your statement of purpose (i.e., a copy of the same statement of purpose which is required by the Graduate School).

    You may also include the following, if applicable:
  1. If you have had teaching experience, a list and description of courses you have taught and at what level.
  2. If you have had research experience, a description of research projects which you have worked on, a list of publications, or other pertinent information. You may attach reprints or other examples of original works.
  3. If you wish to apply for disadvantaged student funds, a statement that describes your disadvantaged status.

  1. Graduate School Application for Admission  form.
  2. Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended.
  3. Current registration information.
  4. A statement of purpose.(See Graduate School Application for Admission.)
  5. An application fee ($55 domestic, $75 foreign students).
  6. An official TOEFL test score, if your native language is not English.
