Introduction:
Dr. St. Peter is currently Associate Professor with the Department of Pharmaceutical Care and Health Systems. St. Peter received her B.S. degree in Pharmacy from the University of Montana in 1983 and the Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and UT Austin in 1986, where she also completed a fellowship in adult medicine in 1988. She has been on faculty with the College of Pharmacy since 1988. Dr. St. Peter was involved in nephrology as a clinical practitioner from 1988 to 1996 at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota and obtained Board Certification in Pharmacotherapy in 1991. St. Peter provided an active consult service in the medication management of dialysis patients in both the inpatient and ambulatory settings.
In 1996 St. Peter accepted a new position at the College as the Associate Dean of Professional Education. In her role as Associate Dean she managed the Office of Student Services and provided oversite of the traditional Pharm.D. program. In January 2000, St. Peter stepped down from the Associate Dean's position to more fully pursue her research interests in nephrology.
She is currently involved in analytical research involving Medicare and other large patient databases with the Chronic Disease Research Group and the United States Renal Data Systems Coordinating Center at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. She has served a term on the Editorial Board of the Pharmacotherapy Self-Assessment Program (PSAP) and was also a preceptor for the ASHP Clinical Dialysis Traineeship Program. She was appointed to the Minnesota Department of Human Services Drug Utilization Review Board from 2000-2006. St. Peter served as a Technical Expert Panel (TEP) member for Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for the End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Outpatient Medications Project and is currently on the CMS Technical Expert Panel (TEP) for CKD/ESRD Medication Measures Project. She has provided her expertise to the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) Kidney Medicare Drugs Awareness and Education Initiative to help address the complexity of Medicare Part D.
Research Interests:
St. Peter’s research revolves around the evaluation of medication utilization and medication adherence on medical and economic outcomes in chronic kidney disease patients.
