Education:
M.Sc., Warsaw Polytechnic, Warsaw, Poland, 1966
Ph.D., Polish Academy of Sciences, Center of Molecular and Macromolecular Studies, Lodz, Poland, 1979
Postdoctoral Research Associate, Sloan-Kettering Institute, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, NY. 1980-1982.
Research Interests:
Research is focused on the discovery and development of novel compounds with anticancer, antiviral, antimicrobial, and immunosuppressive activity based on inhibition of NAD-dependent enzymes including IMP-dehydrogenase, the key enzyme in de novo synthesis of purine nucleosides. One lead compound is now in advanced pre-clinical studies against Gleevec-resistant leukemia (CML). Research also concerns synthesis of nucleosides and nucleotides as antiviral agents against HCV, HBV, HIV, WNV, and SARS.
