Introduction:
Michael Frakes received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Minnesota in 1974 and his Doctor of Pharmacy from that same institution in 1979.
Dr. Frakes is the Director of Technology for the Peters Institute of Pharmaceutical Care. In that position, he leads the continued development and implementation of the Assurance Pharmaceutical Care Systems for practitioners and multi-site data consolidation and analysis available in multiple languages and multiple platforms. As an assistant professor for the College of Pharmacy, he is involved in training, support, and education of Pharmaceutical Care in the PharmD program. Dr. Frakes also works for Fairview Pharmacy Services in Fairview¿s Collaborative Practice of Pharmaceutical Care Team providing software documentation services and practitioner clinical support, and serves as a credentialed pharmaceutical care practitioner. Dr. Frakes has over 25 years of experience in developing computerized clinical support services for a variety of platforms. He served as Vice President of Health Outcomes Management, Inc., a healthcare software company, overseeing all technical and design aspects for 12 years. He co-founded Data Med, Inc., a pharmacokinetics and nutrition software company serving as vice president and principal system designer from 1981 until joining Health Outcomes. He has clinical and design experience with pharmacokinetics, nutrition, anticoagulation services, home care providers, long-term care facilities, hospitals, clinics, and retail pharmacies as well as having managed independent retail pharmacies. Mike acts as a consultant to pharmacy, homecare, and long-term care organizations on the details of reimbursement procedures, especially for advanced clinical pharmacy benefit services. He is a past co-chair on the professional pharmacy services workgroup for the NCPDP developing electronic reimbursement standards for cognitive services. He is a primary creative leader for electronic charting and modeling systems for pharmaceutical care, post marketing surveillance, homecare, long-term care, pharmacokinetics, anticoagulation, critical care nutrition, and advanced pharmacy benefit management.
