We emphasize rural health care issues and the provision of pharmaceutical care in rural and tribal communities and are committed to providing these services to the communities of Greater Minnesota.

The College of Pharmacy, Duluth, is located on the campus of the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) and houses the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Pharmaceutical Sciences. UMD is a mid-size university, enrolling about 10,000 students, including students in the School of Medicine and in the colleges of Science & Engineering, Liberal Arts, and Education & Human Service Professions, and the Labovitz School of Business and School of Fine Arts.

The College of Pharmacy offers the PharmD curriculum on two campuses, Duluth and the Twin Cities. The shortage of pharmacy practitioners in Minnesota - especially in Greater Minnesota - was a driving force to extend the program to the Duluth campus in 2003. Our goal is that more graduates from both campuses will decide to practice in Greater Minnesota. As we expand the College's experiential offerings throughout Minnesota, more students will have the chance to experience pharmacy practice in non-urban areas.

The Pharm.D. class size at Duluth is held to 54 students. The curriculum is the same as the curriculum in the Twin Cities. Students attend all required courses with their classmates; approximately 40 percent of course material is delivered via interactive television (ITV). Through video conferencing students on the Duluth campus, working closely with their Twin Cities classmates, are represented in student governance, college committees, and student organizations. Resources of both campuses are available to all students.
