The PRIME Institute is an independent and global research, education and consulting organization whose mission is the study of the economic and policy issues to help improve the access of the population to pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical services. The Institute was established in 1991 in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Minnesota.

The Institute is directed by Stephen W. Schondelmeyer, Pharm.D., Ph. D., Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Care & Health Systems, Professor of Pharmaceutical Economics and Century Mortar Club Endowed Chair in Pharmaceutical Management and Economics.

The main area of research of the Institute is the application of health economics and public policy theory to analyze the trends and relationships in the pharmaceutical market. The PRIME Institute also conducts consulting and technical assistance activities for governments, health care organizations, associations and professional organizations. The Institute has implemented programs of education for professionals and graduate students in health care management, economics of the pharmaceutical market and pharmacoeconomics.
