The goal of this inter-organizational conference is to describe and discuss medication-related issues affecting rural communities. The conference seeks to engage a broad audience of rural stakeholders and decision makers to discuss challenges and solutions related to practice, research, education and policy related to medication use in rural communities.
The objectives of the conference include:
a. Outline current issues related to the practice of rural pharmacy in all practice settings and the impact on rural healthcare and communities.
b. Share best practices, innovations and programs for maintaining medication access, fostering continuity of care, advancing clinical pharmacy services as a part of the health care team in rural areas and ensuring patient safety.
c. Foster collaborations among researchers, practitioners, educators and administrators for addressing rural medication use issues.
d. Describe rural pharmacy educational experiences and programs for student and practicing pharmacists.
e. Identify policy issues, current and pending, that impact access and optimal use of medications and rural health care.
