Pharmaceutical Care I (Phar 6111) is taught in the first professional year in the Doctor of Pharmacy program as part of a two-semester sequence. The overall goal of the course is to teach the philosophy of practice, the patient care process, and to introduce the steps necessary to establish a new pharmaceutical care practice. All of these goals can be met in the first semester of the pharmacy curriculum if introduced in a manner that is consistent with the way students think and learn at this phase in their career development. In our curriculum, this course is followed by a second semester of Pharmaceutical Care in which the skills and knowledge learned in the first semester are applied to patient cases with common medical conditions.
Course Materials:
Included here are items prepared to accompany the course and the textbook Pharmaceutical Care Practice: The Clinician's Guide. Here you may find a description of the teaching materials, an example syllabus, and a set of PowerPoint slides.

Slides
We have included a set of 250 slides to accompany the course. The slides are organized into topic areas. This makes it is easier to move inside of the slides without having to maintain the order we have developed. We use the slides to answer student questions and to discuss specific topics that are relevant to the discussion each day, so it is common to "jump around" inside the slides. These slides are consistent with the material published in the textbook. You will find key concepts described for each slide in the "note page" feature of PowerPoint.
