Robert J. Cipolle


photo of Robert J. CipolleDr. Cipolle is a pharmacist and educator. He received his Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree (Honors) from the College of Pharmacy at the University of Illinois Medical Center and the Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy. He has held faculty and administrative positions at the University of Minnesota that included Department Chair, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College of Pharmacy.

Dr. Cipolle has practiced in the areas of clinical pharmacokinetics, ambulatory care and long term care. He has developed educational programs for pharmacy students, residents, fellows and graduate students in therapeutic drug monitoring, specialty areas of pharmacotherapy and pharmaceutical care. Dr. Cipolle joined Dr. Strand in 1978 to begin the work that eventually resulted in the development of the practice of pharmaceutical care and a documentation system to support practitioners.

Dr. Cipolle was one of the first clinical pharmacists to be recognized as a fellow by both the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (FCCP-1985) and the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (FASHP-1991). He has received a number of awards to recognize his contribution to pharmacy practice. These include the Hallie Bruce Award from the Minnesota Society of Hospital Pharmacists and the Larry and Dee Weaver Medal for sustained contributions to the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy.

Dr. Cipolle presently holds the position of Professor and Director of the Peters Institute of Pharmaceutical Care in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 1998, the Peters Institute was recognized with the Innovative Pharmacy Practice Award by the Minnesota Pharmacists Association. His most recent research focuses on the development of the educational experience to prepare pharmaceutical care practitioners.
